Rank Descriptions:

Recruit
• Trial member promoted to Corporal within two weeks of satisfactory activity.

Corporal
• Full member.

Sergeant
• Full, active member who contributes to the citadel regularly.

Lieutenant
• An officer who may review applications and help moderate the chat.

Captain
• Experienced officer with additional abilities beyond those of a Lieutenant. Captains must be respected when providing information in chats.

General
• High-ranking officer with abilities beyond those of a Lieutenant. A General is trusted within the Clan. If they make official announcements in chats, do not interrupt them.

Admin
• A General, but with Administrative privileges. Admin handle duties involving recruitment and new members. Admin may settle any disputes below their own Rank.

Organiser
• Experienced Admin who displays leadership (Overseer+) potential. Organisers and above can bring out an Avatar!

Coordinator
• Experienced General+ who may plan/cancel events, and perform Administrative tasks. 1st rank that may create Official Announcements for General+ to share with the Clan.

Overseer
• 1st leadership position within the Clan. Overseers contribute to discussions of rules and policies, event planning, and clan goals and operations. Overseers help shape decisions which play into the fate of the Clan. Overseers provide constructive criticism to any higher ranks on all clan matters.

Deputy Owner
• 2nd leadership position. Deputy Owners have decision-making abilities in major clan discussions. They have the ability to solve disputes at all levels up to their own rank. They customize many of their own duties and therefore work somewhat independently of the Owner. Deputy Owners stand-in if the Owner is away for extended periods.

Owner
• Leader. Makes final decisions on unsettled clan discussions, can overturn leadership decisions, and provides the overall framework for clan activity. Involvement in all levels of dispute settlement.

Clan Ranks Explained Empty Re: Clan Ranks Explained

The logic behind the ranking system is fairly simple. Ranks are hierarchical based on merit, whether it's about activity/contributions or personality. Should you have any questions or concerns related to our ranking system, please ask me in-game or post here

Clan Ranks Explained Empty Re: Clan Ranks Explained

ROLES:

Within the clan, members can play various roles in building our community. Most of these roles are completely voluntary, although everyone is expected to visit/cap at the citadel weekly as eligible.

Anyone can engage in holding events, recruiting, discussions, etc., although some things like assigning Clan Points or other details are left to higher ranks.

We currently have three people who hold specific roles within the clan apart from other Admin+ roles. While we may appoint multiple people to any of these roles (or other roles), these are our current champions:

IVIegan: Cap Manager
This role may extend toward Citadel Manager. Meg oversees whether everyone has capped on a weekly basis. Think of it as our naughty-or-nice list. She may pester you to cap: please abide!

Meg also plays some other Administrative and leadership roles within the Clan.

VanDamage: Head Recruiter (Dunner is now in the mix with this too)
This role is self-evident; he has access to useful resources that will enable him to help us recruit new members

Kay 0: Event Co-ordinator

Again, the title gives away the role; he can create, organize and run events of all kinds.

===
We will also have several people at any given time who act as Avatar Wardens. This is Rank-based, and I believe it starts at Administrator.

Clan Ranks Explained Empty Re: Clan Ranks Explained

A key role that is not really underscored above is that EVERYONE has an important role within the Clan. We are building our own niche in the greater Runescape community, and we can only do it through teamwork. While capping at the Citadel is our only formal requirement, we all have the ability to make greater contributions -- and to create opportunities for our own enjoyment and success within the game, as well as that of others.

The rank system is set up to enable helpful, experienced, knowledgeable and committed members to help others; the authority carried by higher rank is met with a general duty to help others. As the Clan Owner, I may hold the greatest "power" within the Clan, but it is a power to serve a greater good.

Please do not attempt to use the rank system as a means to gain power or to wield it against others. The privileges of rank are meant as instruments of the common interest, and they are to be accessed in ways that improve the clan. In that spirit, EVERYONE in the Clan has an equal part in our future successes. Please follow the Gold Rule and remember that every person should be treated with dignity and respect.

Just a note/reminder:

if you feel someone in unfit for a given rank, bring the problem to me with a reason. If you feel someone deserves a high rank, please use our rank nomination topic or contact me.

I am generally available via in-game message, d2jsp PM, and ventrilo (PC/channel).

Clan Ranks Explained Empty Re: Clan Ranks Explained

Not to make too fine a point of it, but in 2014 nobody will advance a rank beyond Corporal without fealty of 3. That is, if you miss a week capping at Corporal or higher, you are assured that it will take until you return to fealty of 3 before moving up a rank. This is vital to helping preserve the Citadel. Now that we have reached Tier 4, we have a "real" Citadel to work on

Clan Ranks Explained Empty Re: Clan Ranks Explained

More on higher ranks (Admin+):

What we're looking for is someone who enthusiastically embraces the challenge of enabling the clan to fluorish and improve. We look for high-quality character, judgment ability, creativity, initiative, and the ability to co-operate with members and to manage a small community.

Typically, we want to see a leader work within a key role in the clan before advancing into/beyond the Admin rank. Roles may include any of the following or an alternative "occupation" within the clan:

- recruiter
- event organizer
- citadel manager
- dispute settler
NEW! - communications manager

There are only two technical requirements for Admin+: Fealty 3 & General (Rank). NEW! - Most Admin+ will need to be active forum contributors, active in the cc, and able to use vent often.

There is no cookie-cutter way to get to Admin+. It is just the right person at the right time Smile

EDIT: edits noted above

Clan Ranks Explained Empty Re: Clan Ranks Explained

This isn't a HUGE point but I'm often asked when members can start using the Avatar(s). For now it is rank-based and it is set as something given at Admin.

The fine points on the role: it can be taken away (with or without out loss of rank/with or without there being an issue), and the role may be trimmed down if it seems way too "busy" later on. We'll see how it goes.

Clan Ranks Explained Empty Re: Clan Ranks Explained

Post by Admin Tue Jan 28, 2014 3:02 pm

A note about rank mobility: if someone has the same rank forever @ Corporal or higher, that means the person is doing just fine. He or she is not doing anything "wrong". If a person moves down in rank or gets removed from the Clan, he or she has done something "wrong". If someone moves up in rank, it means he or she has exceeded the expectations of his or her rank.

Therefore, the higher the rank, the "harder" it is to move up. Yet some people will move up slowly and some will seem to rocket up, and there is a reason for it. And if someone has moved to Admin within 3-4 months of joining and yet someone else has been one rank below Admin for 5 years and moves up the same day, both have done equally well. Time is a non-factor, and it will never be a factor in decision-making about rank. So while I believe Admin+ will typically take 6 months to a year to reach, that's not definitive. While Deputy Owner will typically take at least a year if not a few years to reach, that doesn't mean someone can't reach it in a matter of a few months.

It's about the person (and how the person gets involved). Consider the example of Matt (Beacon). He basically joined as a Deputy Owner and he has thus far met every expectation. There's a special recipe that's required, and it's not something that I can teach or explain but it's something I know when I see it. In some folks it's just there, and in others it emerges or develops.

The point is that while many people will have the ambition to do great things, it is only when the ambition is removed that the great things are achieved. It's the paradox of life and the solution is at once illusory and profane.

Clan Ranks Explained Empty Re: Clan Ranks Explained

Post by Admin Sun Feb 02, 2014 10:02 pm

FEEDBACK:

If you wish to receive feedback about your suitability for a promotion, please either contact me via PM on the forum or on d2jsp. Every member is always under evaluation for promotion. Usually the intervals between promotions take longer as rank increases (just like reaching level 99 in a skill).

You can also self-evaluate by checking whether you do any or all of the following:

- use the cc and clan forum frequently
- use ventrilo frequently
- participate in clan events
- cap at Citadel (Fealty 3 is a requirement for promotions after Corporal)
- help others

Down the line, as rank increases, expectations grow. Virtually nobody will reach an Admin rank or higher without expressing interest or performing actions within a helpful role in the clan. Roles can change or a member can take on various roles, but in either case you can contact me to let me know if you have an interest in any of these fields:

- recruiting
- events
- citadel
- dispute settlement
- communications
- OTHER (be creative!)

At the Admin+ level most (and eventually all) members will be required to aid in a role; before the Admin level, the role can take the form of creative input, participation, or in some cases even management. Not all roles have the same level of priority but they all matter! Smile It is a good idea to start early if you are interested in eventually joining the Admin+ ranks or even the auspicious Overseer+ ranks.
